Palm Sunday

Today we have been thinking about Palm Sunday.

We drew around our hands on green felt to make our own palm branches.

We tried to think of ways to praise Jesus.

Why don’t you make your own palm leaves and write or draw ways to praise Jesus on them?  Send us a picture by going to the Add A Comment section at the bottom of this page.

If you don’t know what happened on Palm Sunday, then read the story:

Jesus and the disciples came to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover Festival.

Just before they got to Jerusalem, Jesus told the disciples to hurry on to the next village.  He told them that when they got there they would find a donkey that nobody had ever ridden.

He told them to untie it, and bring it to him.

“If anybody asks you why you are taking it, just say the Lord needs it”, Jesus told his disciples.

When they arrived in the village the disciples soon spotted a donkey that looked as if it had never been ridden.

As they were untying it, the owners came over.

“What do you think you’re doing?!”, they said.

“The Lord needs it”, replied the disciples.

The owners let them take the donkey back to Jesus.

When the disciples got back to Jesus they put their coats on the donkey’s back, like a saddle.

A crowd of people had gathered in Jerusalem to see Jesus.  They spread out their coats to make a carpet on the road for him to ride over.  As he approached, the crowd were waving palm branches and shouting out in praise of God.

“God bless the king who comes in the name of the Lord”, they called out.

The Pharisees were angry.  They turned to Jesus.  “Command your disciples to be quiet!”, they said.

“I tell you”, Jesus replied, “If they keep quiet, the stones themselves will start talking.”
