Today is known as Pentecost Sunday. This is a very special time when Christians remember the day that God first sent the Holy Spirit to the people who believed in Jesus.
Some people say that today is like the church’s birthday because it is when the disciples were first given the gift of the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who helps to guide us so that we can live the way God wants us to.
What sort of things do you like to do on your birthday?
Some people like to go out with their friends or family, some people like to have a party, some people might like to have a special meal.
Whatever else you do on your birthday, you will probably blow out the candles on your birthday cake.
Today we are going to use a birthday candle to help us remember the first day of Pentecost.
You can read about this in Acts chapter 2 of the Bible.

Or you can listen to the New International Version here.
Before you begin the story, light your candle. Let the flame of the candle flicker while you are reading or listening to the story.
When the story has finished spend a little time watching the flame of the candle. Think about how God sent the Holy Spirit down like tongues of fire on the disciple’s heads. How would you feel if the room you were in started to shake with a strong wind? Would you be frightened?
